Okay.. So the post office called last Monday to say the chicks were in.
We have never mail ordered chicks before. Apparently they come pretty stressed out. We lost 4 with in the first 3 days. Then Sunday night something got in their cage and ate all but three.
We now have three precious baby chicks and have learned many lessons along the way.
1.) Always give mail ordered chicks some sweetened water right away. We used agave.
2.) Always make sure they have enough space. 1/2 sq ft per bird.
3.) Be prepared for a loss. Have enough chicks to spare.
4.) Always have a light source to keep them at 90* degrees constant.
5.) Give them the correct feed. Chick starter hopefully non GMO like we found.
We started out making our own food, I don't think it had enough protein.
6.) Make sure you have planned ahead where they will go as they grow and that there is plenty of room, safe from predators and no holes the tiny chicks can escape through!
Hopefully this is helpful to anyone ordering chicks in the future!(:
